A SCIS Data subscription is required to access SCIS records through Z39.50. Most modern library management systems (LMS) support Z39.50, which is also known as Z-cataloguing and rapid cataloguing. Please contact your vendor if you are unsure whether this function is available in your system.
In order to correctly configure your LMS to access Z39.50, you will need the following SCIS database configuration details:
Domain name: z3950.scisdata.com
Database name: SCIS or scis
Port: 210 or 7090 (if you are in Victoria, please only use 7090)
Z39.50 username: Your SCIS Z39.50 username (5–7 digit number)
Z39.50 password: Your SCIS Z39.50 password
Please note: your Z39.50 username and password may be different from the credentials you use to login to SCIS. To retrieve your Z39.50 username and password:
- Login to your SCIS account
- Click on your school/organisation name at the top right corner of the page
- Select My profile
- Select School/Organisaton Settings
- Scroll down until you see the Z39.50 information heading
If you do not see the Z39.50 information heading, then you have not been enabled with Z39.50 access. Contact us to have it enabled.
Some LMSs are already configured for access to SCIS. If that is not the case for you then once you have been given Z39.50 access, enter the above configuration details into your LMS. During this process, if you run into any issues, you may wish to check your LMS's user manual for more information or contact your vendor support for assistance.
