SCIS stands for Schools Catalogue Information Service. It is a service that provides schools with consistent, high-quality catalogue records, in order to reduce the cost and duplication of effort of cataloguing resources. A SCIS Data subscription provides you with access to a database of 1.6 million records, making cataloguing resources for your library simple and efficient.
With a SCIS Data subscription, you can download and import our quality catalogue records into your library management system. There are two main ways of doing this and our files are compatible with all library management systems.
The first method is going onto our SCIS website and logging in with the username and password provided on confirmation of your subscription. From there, you can search, browse and download records, and submit cataloguing requests. Once the file has been downloaded, you can import it into your library management system.
The second method is enabling Z39.50 access between SCIS and your library management system. This will allow you to directly download SCIS records from within your library system (this is also known as Z-cataloguing or rapid cataloguing).
