The SCIS catalogue allows you to browse all the resources that SCIS has catalogued over the years. As we specialise in the education sector, it is a great way to see what resources are available and use it as a guide in curating your own school library collection.
The default search option is basic search. Enter keywords in the search box to search all fields in SCIS records. You can refine your search by selecting facets on the result page (please see 'Facets' section below).
Advanced search offers up to three search fields that you can connect using Boolean operators: AND, OR or NOT. Search using keywords, or select from a range of specific indexes to search in. You can search these indexes to find records matching all of your search terms, any of your search terms, or an exact phrase.
Advanced search offers five fields to limit your search:
- Place of publication
- Publication year (specify a start and/or end year)
- Genre (including fiction/nonfiction)
Facet searching is available in the SCIS catalogue. Once you have been given your initial search results, you will see on the left-hand side of the page the corresponding faceted search. The main categories for facet searching include:
- Publication year
- Learning area
- Subject (SCIS Subject Headings)
- Subject (ScOT)
- Subject (Names)
- Country of publication.
